What is source water protection?

Source water is untreated water from streams, rivers, lakes or aquifers that is used to provide drinking water for human consumption, water for agricultural uses, for industry, and for wildlife. Source water protection is any activity that protects these waters from contamination. We all need to protect source water because it is easier to prevent contamination than to remove it after the fact. Everyone needs to be a part of source water protection because we all live downstream of someone and upstream from someone else.

What is a watershed?

A watershed is an area of land that drains into the same region, and is the line between drainage basins. The shape of the watershed is defined along topographical peaks and ridges. Falling raindrops will start a journey to different creeks, rivers and lakes within the watershed.

Benefits Of The Plan

We ALL need water to survive. by taking steps to protect our water resources, we not only help ourselves, but our neighbours including all of the plant and animal species that share our watershed. A clean, dependable water supply is our most valuable resource. We all share the responsiblity to protect our watersheds..
